Historically valued for being jewellery’s finest investment, fancy coloured diamonds that straddle the fire and brilliance of diamonds and the character and ebullience of coloured stones are enjoying a new moment of arrival fuelled in part by heightened demands and red carpet sightings on the likes of celebrities from Hedi Klum to Sarah Jessica Parker over the past few years.

Unlike white diamonds which are graded based on their lack of colour, coloured ones are graded on the intensity of their colour and only one in every 10,000 is a coloured diamond. From canary yellow to rich taupe to dramatic black hues, a diamond derives its colour from impurities within the stone which then affects and alters the chemical process, thereby changing the outcome. Yet, the result is an exceptional diamond coveted and cherished for its character and beauty through the ages. Due to their rarity, coloured diamonds might often be mistaken as semi-precious stones and only the wearer truly understands its worth. Yet, its discreet magnificence only heightens its allure.
