Backed by 575 horses and doing 0 to 100kmh in 3.5 seconds, the new Jaguar F-Type SVR is the fastest Jaguar ever. One might argue that the mighty Jaguar XJ220 should hold the title of fastest car with a top speed of 213 mph but it ended its production and reign in 1992 and so Jaguar has rightly crowned the latest F-Type SVR as the fastest production Jaguar they are currently making in series.
The Jaguar F-Type SVR is the fastest Jaguar currently
Topping out at 200 mph, with its convertible brethren making 195 mph, the F-Type SVR is an update on the F-Type R which itself, was no pushover with 550 horsepower. The SVR pushes an additional 25 horses with a supercharged 575 horsepower 5.0 litre V8 on a lighter frame to boot, churning out 516 lb.ft of torque. The Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe is a whopping 25 kg lighter than its predecessor F-Type R, in part due to a new lightweight Inconel titanium exhaust system (more commonly found in F1), weighing 16kg less than your regular steel system. For those inclined for further customisation, more weight can be shed for an even greater performance boost: opt for the carbon fibre roof panel, switch to carbon ceramic brakes and essentially you could lose up to 50kg for optimum performance.
You might be wondering why the SVR coupe comes in at minimum of 1705 kg while the convertible edges in at 15 kg heavier at 1720 – the foldable frame and roof canvas accounts for the weight difference.
Comparative to the Jaguar F-Type R, the new SVR enjoys functional aesthetic changes which improve airflow and aerodynamics: the almost imperceptibly wider front bump hides the SVR’s wider wheels (for better stability at greater speeds) while the front undertray redirects airflow below deck, making the vehicle swifter through improved aerodynamics before exiting the rear vents. The spoiler alters height at variable speeds, deploying upwards to push the car downwards when you’re pushing pedal to metal or upon selection of Dynamic mode for more grunt and performance.
Oh yes, the F-Type SVR wheels are custom for Jaguar, wide Pirelli P Zeros with 20-inch forged aluminium rims. There’s plenty of braking power with standard steel brake rotors: 15-inch front, 14.8-inch rear. Comparatively, the lightweight carbon ceramic brakes give you 15.7-inch front and 15-inch rear rotors with six-piston front and four-piston rear monobloc calipers.
Beneath the hood, the new Jaguar F-Type SVR is an all-wheel-drive system with rear electronic active differential work to provide better city driving characteristics especially with a stability control system to designed to evenly distribute torque front-to-back and across the rear axle. Additionally, the dampers have been re-valved and are variable according to conditions, together with the newly reconfigured Jaguar Adaptive Dynamics system, the new SVR handles beautifully at both ends of the speed spectrum. That said, those wishing for a “hair on fire”, track experience can set stability control to Track mode for a true racing experience.
Naturally, motor-heads with a penchant for racing would be asking if manual transmission is available but the fact is, the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission is optimally calibrated for efficient shifting, a contributing factor to the vaunted ability to go from 0 – 100 in 3.5 seconds.
The Type-F SVR is the first Jaguar to be badged under Jaguar land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations. The car will launch at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
