If you think it’s already pretty regal at the 6-star St. Regis, wait till you get a load of this, you can soon live at the Palace of Versailles. Well, not in the palatial 700 room home of the Sun King precisely but on the palace grounds.

Now we can eat cake. At the Versailles.

Greek mythological representations make the gardens a very important piece in the whole Versailles complex, and every weekend from spring to autumn you can witness the Grand Eaux - the full fountain choreography.

According to Agence France-Presse and the Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper, the government recently put out a tender for three 17th buildings on the periphery of the property to be converted into a luxury hotel. In 2010, Ivy International proposed Hôtel Du Grand Contrôle with 23 rooms with 5 stars but I believe a stay at such a regal destine should appropriately be serviced within the class of St. Regis or better.

Whoever wins the tender will have operating rights for 60 years, but given the state of relative disrepair, the winning company will have to pay between eight million and 11 million euros to fix up the buildings. Presently, French group AccorHotels is reportedly in the lead in the tender.

The King's apartments consisted of seven rooms, each corresponding to a planet, as known by then, and of course their related Roman deity. Le Vau even designed the rooms in such a way that six of them are positioned as satellites around the Salon of Apollo, the Sun god - and throne room for the Sun King. The Palace of Versailles is built in the French Baroque style, with specific large curves, sophisticated shapes, high vaults, and twisted columns. It was designed by Louis Le Vau (Wikipedia Article) and painted by Charles LeBrun, a courtier and favorite artist of Louis XIV
