Awarded Order of the British Empire, Edward John David Redmayne, OBE is no Patrick Stewart or Ian McKellan, in fact, as far as English talents go, he’s a young-un. Starting his professional career acting in both theatre and television roles in the early 2000s before his film debut, Like Minds, in 2006. But in Eddie Redmayne, Omega couldn’t have picked a better ambassador.
Blagged – Brit informal colloquialism used by Redmayne to describe how he used guile and persuasion to get into acting
Observatory certification has been around since the 19th century but Chronometer certification in its current form has remained status quo since 1973 and the new certification approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), is a corollary for Redmayne’s career- New, revolutionary and beggars the status quo: beginning with humble acknowledgement that as robust and lauded a co-axial chronometer could be, it could be better yet.
For Redmayne, ambassadorship of one the world’s most distinguished names in watchmaking comes on the heels of playing a living icon with a fiercely degenerative disease. In one interview, Redmayne was quoted as saying, “I didn’t train to be an actor, I blagged my way into it, and I always feel I’m waiting to be found out. So whenever you get a job, there’s a moment of euphoria and then the realisation, ‘oh my God, you’ve got to do this’.” It’s this sort of humility, given that the world was already enraptured by his turn as an unwitting intern on the set of a movie with Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, which makes him the perfect brand representative.
From tackling singing parts in Les Miserable to playing a legendary genius, his constant practice of the craft is analogous to the true spirit of Omega and their legacy of precision and outstanding performance. METAS certification requires the passing this series of eight independent tests and performing within the parameters set by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (COSC) qualifies a timepiece as a Master Chronometer. Not only do the tests measure the performance of watches in daily wearing conditions, they also ensure that the watch and its movement function properly when exposed to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

On Redmayne’s wrist: The Omega Globemaster, world’s first Master Chronometer
The Globemaster houses the brand’s most advanced mechanical movement and features a design inspired by early Constellation models that represent Omega’s horological expertise and heritage.
